WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024 – Cuba v Japan set for final showdown

The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup Mexico City 2022 MVPs – Ayako Rokkaku of Japan and Briandy Molina of Cuba – are set for the final of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup Hong Kong 2024 on Saturday at 18:00.

The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup Hong Kong 2024 is set for a repeat of the 2022 final with defending champions Cuba due to play Japan in the 2024 final at 18:00 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space in Hong Kong, China on Saturday following the final day of the Super Round and Placement Round on Friday.

Cuba beat Japan 9-1, 6-2 in Mexico City two years ago and still look the team to beat, despite losing their first set ever in World Cup history on Thursday against Japan.

The last day of the Super Round was completed with Cuba beating France 17-2, 11-3, Japan overcoming Chinese Taipei 6-1, 4-3 and Venezuela outscoring Mexico beating 4-3, 10-2 without affecting the final top six positions.

Mexico City 2022 bronze medallists Chinese Taipei finished fifth and Mexico sixth.

The WBSC Baseball5 World Cup Hong Kong 2024 bronze medal game between Venezuela and France will take place at 15:00.

Venezuela and France will both be hoping to collect their first WBSC Baseball5 World Cup medal after finishing fourth and ninth respectively in 2022.

The final day of the Placement Round saw Tunisa, Lithuania and China finished tied with a 4-1 win-loss record with Tunisia confirmed in seventh place, Lithuania in eight and China ninth after the TQB calculation.

Hong Kong, China; South Africa and Australia finished 10th, 11th and 12th respectively.

Hong Kong, China improved on their Mexico City 2022 result where they finish 12th collected two victories compared to one win, two years ago. European champions Lithuania went up from 11th to eighth with four wins compared to two in Mexico, while South Africa couldn’t improve on their seventh place result from Mexico.

Tunisia, despite claiming four wins – two more compared to Mexico 2022 where they played in the Super Round – dropped on place from sixth to seventh.

The number of teams participating in the next editions of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup and WBSC Youth Baseball5 World Cup will increase from 12 to 16 teams.

Baseball5 will also feature at the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026
