The provincial and local leaders of the local government of Pingtan, Fuzhou’s high commitment to the development of softball to create a vitality island with a pilot sport event saw the hosting of the 2023 U18 Women Asia Cup championship starting tomorrow.
This was disclosed by Chinese Softball Association secretary-general Jimmy Zheng Lu at a packed Press Conference this afternoon to give details of the tournament.
Attending the Press Conference were Wei Chang Chan, the director of Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area Tourism Culture and Sports Bureau, Lin Yu Chua, the Chairman of Pingtan Comprehensive Experimental Area Cultural Tourism Development Group, Sally Lim, Softball Asia secretary general, See Kok Wooi, Head Technical Officer for the tournament and Wiremu Tamaki, World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Umpires Seminar Conductor.
“Pingtan an international tourist destination is being promoted through sports tourism like this U18 Women’s Asia cup championship,” said Wei.
“We are committed to promote tourism through sports and could well be hosting several other international events.
“We are also working very closely with the Chinese Softball Association (CSA) and will definitely be promoting softball and baseball in a big way and even have plans in the near future to build a closed dome for baseball and softball.
“We are indeed grateful to Softball Asia for allowing CSA to host this tournament and we are more than happy to work closely with CSA to make this championship success and of a high international standard one,” Wei told to a packed Media Conference.
