CHINA is ready to host the 2023 U-18 Women’s Softball Asia Cup, a qualifying tournament for the U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, with the top three qualifying for the World Cup, at the Pingtan Softball Stadium, Fujian, China.
The tournament scheduled from late August to early September 2023 is expected to see eight countries to feature.
Softball Asia president, Datuk Low Beng Choo, welcomed the readiness of Chinese Softball Association to host the tournament and venue.
“I will be making a site visit to recce the facilities in July, before giving the final nod,” said Low who is also the secretary-general of World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
Pingtan has a rich baseball and softball cultural foundation and has hosted the 2016 Straits Cup Women’s Softball Tournament and many other baseball and softball tournaments. The tournaments has attracted more than 10,000 fans and the local ability to host the tournament was well received by the baseball and softball community.
Pingtan has the excellent field conditions in the country. The Pingtan Softball Stadium has a total construction area of 8,957 square meters. The softball stadium includes the main building, the outer corridor building and the janitorial building. The main building has a construction area of 7,534 square meters, with 2 floors above ground and 3 floors partially, and a total seating capacity of 5,030. The whole building consists of the main arena, the competition field and the training field. The first floor of the main arena is for players, umpires, VIPs, news media, equipment, training accessories and other non-audience rooms; the second floor is for rest rooms, toilets and other audience rooms, the audience through the outdoor east and west two large steps to the audience platform, through the rest room into the audience stands; the third floor is for sound, light, screen control, security control, commentators room and other arena operation rooms.
