The WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation) has given Softball Asia notice that the calendars for the WBSC Baseball5 World Cups has been changed to start in 2022 as follows: Baseball5 (Open category) World Cup to be held in even years, on a bi-annual basis, starting from 2022 and then 2024, 2026, etc. • Baseball5 (Youth category: 14 – 8 years old) World Cup to be held in odd years, on a bi-annual basis, starting from 2023 and then 2025, 2027, etc.
That decision would therefore give WBSC-Asia Baseball5 Commission and Softball Asia more time to plan for the Asia Cup Baseball5 qualifier tournaments. As such, please the WBSC-Asia Baseball5 Commission and Softball Asia, in consultation with Baseball Federation of Asia, in postponing the Asia Cup Baseball5 qualifiers to dates to be determined.
At this stage, due to the current global Covid-19 pandemic which is seeing many countries/territories reporting record-high spiking number of cases and imposing mandatory lockdowns, which is resulting in an extremely challenging situation, it is unable to determine the definite dates.
” It is hoped that with the roll-out of available vaccines in numerous countries/territories, the situation would be more manageable in the next few months,” Low Beng Choo,Chair.,WBSC-Asia Baseball5 and also Softball Asia president.
“BFA, SA and the WBSC-Asia Baseball5 Commission will review the situation in April – June 2021 to see if it is possible to plan more definitely to hold the Asia Cup Baseball5 qualifiers in the later part of 2021 or early 2022,” she added.
Due to the long lapse, members who have paid deposits to participate in the Asia Cup Baseball5 qualifiers, may, if they wish, request for a refund of the deposit; otherwise, the deposits will be used for the Asia Cup tournaments when it is held in due course. “We will keep you posted on developments. We thank you for your support and patience.”
