The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) is pleased to announce the implementation of the latest set of rule changes to Baseball5, effective from 1 June 2025. These updates reflect the WBSC’s ongoing commitment to player safety, game integrity, and the continued evolution of Baseball5 as an accessible, dynamic, and inclusive sport for all participants.
Major Rule Changes
- Introduction of Double Base at Home Plate
To minimise the risk of collisions, a double base will now be used also at home plate.
A new triangular safety base will be introduced in the batter’s box for runners to score, while defensive plays at home will be made on the standard plate in fair territory. These changes are designed to provide clear separation between offensive and defensive players, reducing the potential for accidental contact during close plays.
- Clarification and Expansion of Out Rules
The updated rulebook provides clearer guidance on when a batter or runner is out, especially in the case of illegal hits and runners being hit by the ball.
- Enhanced Substitution and Injury Protocols
Further explanation added for fairness with players now being able to rejoin at the end of each half inning.

These rule changes have been carefully tested at major Baseball5 events and are the result of extensive consultation with various stakeholders. The WBSC is confident that these updates will create a safer and more dynamic environment for all participants and further the global growth of Baseball5.
“The WBSC remains dedicated to refining Baseball5, ensuring that the sport continues to embody the values of safety, fairness, and accessibility for everyone,” WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said.
