Japan and USA head to Super Round with undefeated records; Chinese Taipei, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Philippines also advance

Welcome to this daily summary of the maiden WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup, giving you the latest news and key updates on the new WBSC event.

Tokyo, Japan – The race for the Super Round positions at the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup in Tokyo, Japan went down to the last game of the Opening Round with Brazil’s 6-4 win over the Philippines in Setagaya not enough for the world No. 16 to claim a ticket to the Super Round.

Both Brazil and the Philippines finished tied with Czechia in Group B with a 2-3 win-loss record however TQB meant the Philippines, ranked 21st in the world, advanced to the Super Round in third spot with Czechia finishing fourth, Brazil fifth.

World No. 1 USA, who claimed a 15-0 over Czechia and a forfeit win over Uganda on Tuesday, topped Group B unbeaten and also progress to the Super Round along with Puerto Rico, who beat Brazil 7-0 to finish with a 4-1 win-loss record.

In Group A, world No. 2 Japan, who beat Mexico 5-0 and New Zealand 7-0, finished in first place unbeaten followed by Chinese Taipei (4-1), who beat Italy in a crunch game 4-2, and Mexico (3-2). Italy, who beat Peru 7-4 earlier in the day, finished with a 2-3 win-loss record in fourth place and will contest the Placement Round along with Peru (1-4) and New Zealand (0-5).

All six teams will enter the Super Round carrying over their respective Opening Round head-to-head records.

The Super Round schedule was announced following the conclusion of the Opening Round. Chinese Taipei and Puerto Rico will open the Super Round on 26 October at 11:00, followed by the game between Philippines and Japan at 14:00, and Mexico and USA at 17:00.

The top two teams at the conclusion of the Super Round will compete For the Title of World Champion at Ota Stadium on Sunday, 29 October at 14:00. Third and fourth place finishers will play the Bronze Medal Game at 11:00.
