The Softball Association of India closed the 2021 year on a high note, with national softball championships in multiple categories, a Baseball5 national championship and a women’s national team tryout, in preparation for the Asian Games 2022.
The first-ever India National Baseball5 Championship was played from 9-11 November at Sadul Culb Bikaner in Rajasthan. In all, 24 boy’s teams and 22 girl’s teams participated in the event, in parallel with the Sub junior softball national championship. Kerala won the women’s tournament, while Madhya Pradesh conquered the men’s event.
Softball India also translated and published the Baseball5 rulebook.
The national governing body organised its second selection trial for the Women’s Softball National Team for the 2022 Asian Games in Manav Rachna University, Faridabad from December 19-21, 2021.
From 24-28 December it was played the 43rd Senior National Softball Championship, held at RDT Anantpur, in Andhra Pradesh. In the women’s tournament, Kerala grabbed the national title, beating Punjab in the final. On the men’s side, Maharashtra took the title after a win over host Andhra Pradesh.
India is currently ranked No. 16 in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Rankings, and No. 43 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings.
