The Executive Board of Softball Asia (SA) and the entire Asia Softball family, are saddened by the sudden demise of former Singapore’s national softball player, coach and umpire, Albert Chia Leow Boon Heng, on Sept 7, 2020.
The entire softball fraternity extend their deepest condolences to his mother Madam Rosalind Leow and family, for their great loss.
Albert who would have turned 54 on Nov 11, was a very dedicated and experienced umpire for many years, serving the sport and organisation with full dedication and total commitment in various assignments.
His last official assignment was the Manila South East Asian (SEA) Games in December last year.
Albert was an established member of the Singapore National Men’s Softball Team, having represented the nation at the 3rd Asian Softball championship in 1985, the 5th, 6th and 8th Asean Softball championship in1986,1988 and 1995 respectively, the 10th World Series in 1992, and the 19th and 24th Sea Games in 1997 and 2007.
He was also Coach for the Peicai, Hwa Chong Institution, Chung Cheng, Tanjong Katong Girls’ School Teams, Raffles Girls’ Primary School and the RoadRunners.
His contribution to the game will always be remembered and cherished.
He may have left us all too soon, but he will forever remain in our memory.
